About Me

People like to always say, "Don't judge a book by its cover." but it is something that we are all guilty of. I do it all the time whether I am looking for a book online, at a book store or in a library. Sometimes I will even judge a book by the design on the spine. This just goes to show how important the design and typography of a book are and can speak volumes about the genre and even how professional the book seems. In an age where people can self-publish their books online covers are very important. A good cover can lend a book more authority or credibility when someone is looking online at Amazon, Smashwords, or other sites.

The men and women who make these covers can either work with larger companies or go freelance. Either way they are referred to as Book Designers or Book Cover Designers and they create the final image that serves as a tableau for the story the author has created. It can be one of the most important aspects in whether or not a book sells because it is meant to draw the readers in and if it fails, the book might not be bought by interested readers.

The purpose of this website is to give a basic explanation into what exactly a book cover designer does and what you need to do to become one, the skills you need to develop, advice, how to get stared, and tutorials on how to become a better designer. This website is also designed to help you decided if this is really the profession that you want to pursue by providing an overview of what a designer does and showing you what some real designers websites look like. e
